Welcome to the 5 August 2025 Luton & Dunstable MGOC Newsletter.

Hello everyone! Welcome to the latest edition of our club newsletter, coming out on Tuesday, 5th
August 2025.

A big thank you to the volunteers for this Sunday’s South Beds Classic Vehicle Show (August 10th).

We have a Marshalls meeting after Tuesday’s meeting, so those who volunteered please join us after
the meeting to discuss the rota and details for the show.

If you’re not at the meeting, I will also conduct a pre-start meeting on the morning of the show.

We have the refreshments meeting at the same time – the lead is Bridget and we will co-ordinate both once completed, ready for Sunday’s show.

Club BBQ:

On a different note, we’re planning the Club BBQ on Sunday, 31st August.

Please RSVP to me or email me if you are attending and if you have anything to bring – we will get a spreadsheet out with what is being offered so you can fill in any gaps.

The Club will provide burgers, sausages and rolls and potentially vegetarian options, but we will discuss this at the meeting.

The club wishes to thank Trisha and David for the invitation to Trisha’s significant birthday
celebration.

What a great night out – especially liked the ‘Eddie Baker rendition’. AGAIN A BIG THANK YOU from me and the club.

The XM655 Vulcan Bomber visit:

I hope, enjoyed by everyone, and I personally would like to do more along this line in the future.

For those who missed it, we met at McDonald’s and then convoyed with 14 cars to a mid-point stop at the Weedon Bec munitions museum and the café on site for refreshments and a comfort break before completing our journey at the XM655 airfield.

We had a great reception and brilliant tour and photo opportunity and were well looked after by the volunteers who were exceptionally enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

They answered all our intelligent questions and were very patient with the not-so-intelligent ones. We finished off the tour with a photo opportunity with the cars and club members in front of XM655. The journey home after a long day and over a hundred and fifty miles in the classic cars dictated a comfort break and a meal!

Shuttleworth:

Brian has given me a contact at Shuttleworth and I’m trying to arrange something on a flying day –
more details to follow.

Wednesday Wanderers:

Here’s a quick update on our Wednesday Wanderers Report from Janet.

“For our July outing, we took the short drive to Rushmere Country Park in Heath and Reach. Most
of us went through a heavy rain shower on the way but our optimism was rewarded with a
pleasantly warm and mostly sunny afternoon.

By the time we had all gathered, there was a total of 17 members.

After a drink in the excellent café, we set up camp in the large field and enjoyed
our picnics and lots of chatter.

Presumably we all managed to exit the barrier without too much problem as last year the machine had difficulty recognising our old-style number plates.”

Here’s a quick rundown of our upcoming club events:

Offley Classic Car Show – from 15:00 on Friday 8th August – this is a turn up together
to park together event and meeting at mine at 15:00. £10 per car entry.

The South BEDS Classic Vehicle Show on Sunday the 10th August, as a club I would
suggest turning up early to get parked and set up and Marshalls on site at 8am please.

Harlington Road at 9:00 am.

Events page:

The club stands will be booked if the organisers of the shows allow it.

But lately, organisers have been only allowing individuals to book online with different options for the club stand. Some shows are turn-up only, and a few are display by age. We’ll do our best to let you know how and when to book your tickets well in advance, whenever possible.

Friday, August 8th, from 3 pm to 8 pm, the Offley Classic Car and Motorcycle
Show is taking place at Offley Recreation Ground in SG5 3DX. (Pirton show as was)

The South Beds Classic Vehicle Show is coming up on August 10th. If you’re willing
to help out with marshalling, you’ll get free entry. Marshals on site at 8:00 am and
club stand filled by 9:00 am if possible.

Sunday, August 24th, and Monday, August 25th, the Knebworth Classic Motor
Show.

It’s a two-day event with a club stand.

It’s our 40th anniversary show, so it’s going to be a special occasion – please see the circulating form to specify which day(s) you plan to attend. Dress appropriately to the age of the car you arrive in and let’s hope no one has to dress up as the AA breakdown!

Flitwick Lockdown on Sunday, 17th August. Specify “Field A” when you
book.

Saturday, 30th August, we’re at Redbourn.

A602 Autorama is on Sunday, 7th September.

We’ll be adding more shows to the events calendar soon, so stay tuned.

Look out for – Croydon in September, Houghton Rocks and Sywell.

All the details will be on our website.
