Club Business
It’s a refreshing change from our usual complaints about the rain or roadworks!.
Our Wednesday Wander to Buckden had to be postponed due to the hottest day of the year so far. Instead, we ventured out on the first Wednesday of July, which was much cooler but still in the mid-20s.
We also supported a local charity by setting up a club stand and display at the Fancott Miniature Railway.
This is a nice little event as we can have a meal in the pub…and use the facilities!
Next, we celebrated our club’s achievements.
Our Secretary won Best Car in Show at the Wingfield Classic Car Show, and our Treasurer won one of the big raffle prizes.
We also got the Mayor’s award at the Rushden Classic Car Show!
Leading by example….
The following weekend, we spread ourselves out a bit. Some members attended the Kimbolton Country Show, while others attended the Bedford River Festival.
Wednesday Wanderers Report
Report of Wednesday Wanderings and next planned event potentially a picnic.
“Almost a record number of 21 members visited Jordans Mill near Broom in North Beds.
Ten of us took the guided tour of the actual mill building, which was really fascinating.
Although no flour is produced there these days, the Victorian machinery is still working and we were able to follow the complicated journey the wheat would have taken over the three floors.
I think we were all impressed by the ingenuity of the Victorian engineers who constructed all the interconnecting cabinets, wheels, belts, and pipework.
We had an enjoyable lunch in the pleasant restaurant with a good natter, and managed to survive the very high temperature.”
The next club events we need to prepare for:
The South Beds Classic Vehicle Show on Sunday 9th August, please fill in the Marshalling sheet for me to pass onto Henry who is in charge this year. We will set up our gazebo(s) on Sunday morning.
Please ensure you are registered and if not marshalling paid up – FYI some have not had a confirmation email and this means the registration did not work so you will need to go in and register again (check your spam and that you put your email is correct).
I’ve also had feedback that payments have been stopped by banks due to setting off the banks’ fraud filters! We have the new Gazebo going to the show and subject to numbers can take the older one (or Richards) as well – how many are attending?
The flag is also sorted and if wanted, I also have the banner if someone wants to take that – these will then need to get to Flitwick or back to me to go to Flitwick.
Flitwick Car and Bike Show is on Sunday the 16th August – meeting point is the Lorry Lay-By on the Harlington Road, past Poplars Garden Centre the first turning on the left past the roundabout (W3W overcomes.tens.alley) meeting time 8:00am leaving at 8:10 for field “C” and please remember to print your pass (or phone picture).
Also looking for someone to take the Gazebo and flag from South Beds show to this show as we don’t get back till the Saturday! so now way to drop it in.
Classics at the Plough – Kings Walden is on Thursday, the 27th August, starting at 5pm – worth a visit for the live music, BBQ, and friendly atmosphere – a free event and you can arrive and leave when you like.
Pub Night will be at the newly refurbished Green Man in Offley, 5 High St, Great Offley, Herts SG5 3AR – tel 01462 768256 on Tuesday, 18th August (around 20:30 or earlier if dining).
Club BBQ will be on Saturday, 22nd of August, volunteers are welcomed to help set up, etc. We will need to organise the who’s bringing what list and identify any gaps. Starting at 3pm (ish) till late as before, no blocking driveways please.
Club Holiday
I’m looking for interest in a May 2027 Club Holiday to the Isle of Man – discussion at the meeting but will need an idea of numbers to get more costs – also, if a stop on the way down at a B&B to break up the journey is advised and to give us a chance of making the ferry. Journey to the Ferry port is six hours+ by Classic Car!
Events Page
Club stands will be booked if the organisers of the shows allow; however, the recent trend is for organisers to only allow individuals to book online with various options employed for the club stand, examples are:- Club Name for Chiltern Hills Rally and a club code issued for Kimbolton .
Some shows are turn-up only and a few are display by age – we will endeavour to advise you of how and when to book your tickets well in advance where possible.
